Werewolf: An Ancient Monster.
The Harry Potter series is famous for its werewolf Remus Lupin. Werewolf is mainly found in European folklore. It is said that a man turns into a giant wolf at night after seeing the moon and returns to his human form by dawn.
Werewolf myth is much more ancient. It is described in Greek Mythology. It is also known as Lycanthropy. In mythology, the son of Pegasus, Lycon served meals to Zeus, The Lord of gods which are made by human flesh. Zeus got angry and turned the Lycon into Lycanthropy, half-man and half-wolf. Another myth said that in Neuri, the nomadic magic man turned into the wolf several times in the year. Neuri is now a province in Russia. But Wolfskin could be there to protect himself from the stream cold weather.
Werewolves are also found in Nordic folklore. This is the tale of Volsunga Saga, the story of a father and son who found a belt in the forest. This belt had the power to turn a man into a wolf for ten days. They used the power of belt and started killing the village people. The story ended when his father attacked son but later saved his son’s life with a leaf of healing power.
According to myth, a person can turn into a werewolf via a bite, scratch or curse of another werewolf. When he changes into a wolf, he inherits both the quality of man and wolf-like sense, stamina and agility. It also says that werewolves have more strength and stamina far beyond than any normal wolves.
In modern times there are many medical conditions that explain werewolves theory in terms of humans. One is hypertrichosis, which creates unusually long hair on the face and body; a second condition, porphyria, is characterized by extreme sensitivity to light, seizures, anxiety, and other symptoms. Clinical Lycanthropy refers to the person who thinks about himself as an animal. This kind of case had been seen in Germany. Basically Lycanthropy was seen as a curse. and these kinds of humans are seen as victims, not villains. Werewolves could be killed by a silver bullet that was the theory of that time.
Werewolves are a very common mythological character. Many books and novels were written in the story of werewolves. Some people started to see the delusion and think about themselves as a werewolf.
